Text Your Way to Your Next Healthcare IT Position

Sunday, July 22nd, 2012

Sheila Rogers, Founder and CEO

I was talking with a recruiter friend of mine the other day, someone I have worked closely with in the past, and he shared his “recruiting secret” with me.

With the hectic pace of technology change in healthcare, consultants and candidates are busier than ever.  Connecting on the phone is a challenge for some; time zones may be different, work schedules may be erratic, and bosses may be difficult.  The secret weapon used by recruiters and hiring managers today is the text message.

Text messages work because they are immediate and conversational.  If the recruiter or hiring manager has a specific question about your skillset, he or she can simply text message you with the question.  If you are available, you can answer immediately.  If you’re not, you answer when you can.

Also, text messages are proprietary to your phone – no one else will know you are conversing with a recruiter/hiring manager, so you can feel secure with your communications.

I think text messages are a great way to find your next assignment.  My recruiter friend thinks so also.  Happy hunting!

Aren’t Online Job Boards Outdated?

Monday, July 16th, 2012

Sheila Rogers, Founder and CEO

Running multiple job boards over the last couple of years, I am often asked the question “aren’t online job boards outdated?”

The logic seems pretty solid on the surface…

Facebook, having recently gone public, offers a social network for folks on the job hunt.

LinkedIn offers a resume-style profile and advertisements to target specific companies, skillsets or credentials.

My answer – Generic online job boards may be losing steam, but SPECIFIC online job boards will continue to rule.

My reasoning is simple.  Search engine optimization and the segmentation of geographic employment and vertical skillsets offers value to individuals looking in a specific community or for a specific skillset.  Effectively, it’s not enough to be BIG anymore, now you have to be good…and offer value to your customers and candidates.

You can check out our HIT SPECIFIC job boards here:

I hope you will realize the value we are offering to the healthcare IT marketplace.

The Key to EMR User Adoption – What’s in it for Me?

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Sheila Rogers, Founder and CEO

Stage 2 Meaningful Use guidelines require increased reporting and additional objectives which should offer significant benefits to Provider Organizations. Beyond increases in reporting and objectives, Stage 2 also pays significant attention to the issue of interoperability/data exchange and usability, recognizing that without real interoperability and usability the potential positive outcomes of increased reporting and additional objectives will never happen.

There are many stakeholders — executives, management, and front-line employees (clinicians and other end users) that have some level of interest and ownership in your EMR system. Each of these system stakeholders has one primary question in mind: “What’s in it for Me?”

Important keys to maximizing user adoption are gaining a clear understanding of each stakeholder group’s needs, maximizing the benefit for each of them in the EMR system’s design, and then training them how to most effectively leverage the system. Meaningful Use requires actively practicing these important keys will help you achieve the return on investment goals you have put in place for your EMR initiative.

Getting stakeholders involved early helps achieve the “buy in” they need to feel how important their part in the EMR process is, making them more likely to adopt, and use, the system effectively.

Whether you are preparing to embark on your EMR initiative, or you are well down the path, place extra emphasis on gaining user adoption and Provider-wide buy-in. Creating as many WIIFMs (What’s In It For Me) as possible for your various stakeholder groups will go a long way towards helping your EMR initiative, and ultimately your organization, succeed in accomplishing Meaningful Use.

“Ivesia, my new home!”

<We are proud to support Ivesia Healthcare IT Solutions, one of our new sponsers! -Sheila>

There are a lot of companies that have jumped into the healthcare technology consulting arena recently, and many times we do not hear such pleasant things about them. This may be because they churn their people or just do not treat them with respect.  However, there is a company we have recently noticed and consistently hear is doing very well.  We did a little digging and found one of the important reasons is due to how they treat their employees/consultants. We believe and have confirmed that they definitely go above and beyond for their employees.  Interested in learning more or working for this company?  Please read more…

Ivesia Healthcare IT Solutions is a leading healthcare technology consulting firm that has gone from $500,000 in annual sales to close to $10,000,000 in just a few years. Many ask how did they do it? Well we think we found their secret and it is simple. They treat their employees with respect. Their philosophy is a happy employee will make a happy customer which in turn will drive more business and it sure has worked. Ivesia does it by offering their team great projects and the opportunity to work with some of the leading clients in the industry. They offer quarterly & annual bonuses, health benefits and a 401K with a match, and also a nice surprise on their birthday. Other things they do are monthly team outings at a local watering hole and quarterly company events.  Another item that sets them apart is they assign a Consultant Relationship Manager to help their employees with whatever they need assistance with while out in the field. The Consultant Relationship Manager’s focus is to make life easy for the Ivesia consultant while on the road. It’s like having a concierge for their personal work life.

If you are a healthcare technology consultant, you have a lot of different projects and opportunities to choose from these days. Our recommendation is to check out Ivesia as we continue to hear great things about them. Why not make Ivesia your new “home” like so many other happy consultants. You won’t regret it!

Ivesia Healthcare IT has assembled some of the best and brightest minds in healthcare to assist our clients through this maze of healthcare regulations. We help providers and vendors implement quality IT systems that meet Meaningful Use and ultimately improve patient quality and safety. Our expertise crosses every single vendor to include Epic, Cerner, McKesson, Meditech and Allscripts. Core skill areas are Project Management, Workflow/Design, Application Build, Training/Go-Live and Integration (HL7).

Employee Testimonials

“I have to say, I have worked for a few consulting firms, and by far Ivesia has been the best, you guys treat me great, and it is a pleasure and honor to be a part of the Ivesia family. “

-          McKesson Consultant

I like the idea of having a Consultant Relationship Manager available as the first point of contact after being hired to be a liaison with getting issues and questions resolved. The recruiting staff are very professional and caring as they are the initial ‘face’ of Ivesia. My experience with my recruiter was exceptional.

-          Cerner Consultant

I feel very fortunate to be working for Ivesia for the last eight months. My experiences and training have been invaluable and working with Ivesia has been nothing but pleasant. I will continue to recommend Ivesia to my former colleagues looking to make a change!

Independence Day Career Advice

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Sheila Rogers, Founder and CEO

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that of the 30 fastest growing occupations, 17 are healthcare related. The healthcare segment is one of the largest industries in the country, with more than 11 million jobs. The competition is so fierce that provider organizations, consulting firms and government organizations are in bidding wars for healthcare professionals. The nation’s healthcare bill is doubling almost every ten years with the greatest growth in private insurance on the payer side, and prescription drugs on the provider side. By 2012, the total bill amount will be 3.25 trillion, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Department of Health and Human Services. Prevention is playing an important role in healthcare, with more jobs in nutrition and fitness sprouting up in hospitals, schools and retirement communities.

Based on statistics and the continued growth of federal aid within healthcare, it seems that our industry is very healthy and primed for significant growth.

What can you do, as an HIT professional, to take advantage of such growth?

Two words: Get Certified.

Certifications prove that you are a long-term player in the industry.  They are the continuation of your learning and education, and offer significant value to your current and future employers because they differentiate you from the crowd.  The more quality certifications you have, from reputable companies, the better off you will be in the future.

Happy Independence Day!  Make it a great one!
